Engineering plastics are becoming increasingly demanding to process. One of the key challenges is the growing wear on extruder screws, barrels, and downstream equipment. This wear is closely linked to higher demands on materials with high processing temperatures and abrasive, reinforced compounds, which affect final product quality.
To minimize downtime and ensure top-notch output, it’s essential to regularly refurbish screws, barrels, and extrusion dies or use materials that effectively resist premature wear. This is especially critical in the design and maintenance of extrusion lines for the plastics and rubber processing industries.
Our R&D is practice-oriented. We combine technical know-how and years of hands-on experience with experts, manufacturers of plastic materials, processing equipment, and technical universities. This close collaboration allows us to develop solutions even for advanced screw and die designs and optimize complex compounding processes.
We also utilize tools such as the Virtual Extrusion Laboratory™ to improve precision and process reliability across all applications.
BOCO has long invested in R&D focused on automated machining and refurbishing systems, as well as new production methods – all to deliver fast, reliable, and tailored solutions to our customers.
We currently operate a well-equipped facility for reworking worn screws and barrels, complete with semi-automated welding systems, modern surface grinding equipment, and machining tools that enable cost-efficient production and repairs with high repeatability.
All refurbished components go through a strict validation process. Their key properties are thoroughly tested, evaluated, and documented to ensure proper function in each application.
